The University of Oklahoma’s Iranian Student Association, also known as ISA, was established in October of 2005. The purpose of Iranian Student Association is to:
- Introduce the Iranian culture to the non-Iranian community of The University of Oklahoma in order to build a mutual understanding between the two communities and help foster friendship among different cultural groups
- Create connections among the University of Oklahoma’s Iranian community through cultural, scientific, social, and educational activities.
- Represent the interest of Iranian individuals at the University of Oklahoma regardless of religious, political or personal views, as long as they do not impinge on the rights of others
Iran is home to one of the world’s oldest civilizations, which started with the establishment of the Persian Empire about 3,000 years ago. With such an extensive history comes a rich culture, and Iranian students are ideal for showcasing this heritage. Iranian Student Association hosts annual events such as Mehregan (Persian Autumn Festival), Eid Nowrouz (Persian New Year) and Shabe Yalda (Yalda Night) to display the Iranian culture to the non-Iranian community.
Iranian Student Association is very fortunate to have such a diverse organization consisting of Iranians who recently moved from Iran, Iranian-Americans, and many other students who are interesting in learning more about Iran’s people and culture. This allows for a wide variety of ideas and opinions, allowing us to improve and enrich our organization. For more information on the organization or questions about upcoming events, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to subscribe to our email list.
